San Andreas Lake
San Andreas Lake lies in the narrow rift zone created by the San Andreas Fault. Here, with the northwestern tip of the lake along the bottom of the photo, you can see the San Francisco International Airport about 3 miles (5 Km) to the east of the lake. Contrary to popular conception, the San Andreas Fault does not run through the city of San Francisco, but runs offshore between Daly City and Pacifica, a few miles south of the city.
