Golden Gate Photo - Market Street, San Francisco Gallery
Fine Art Photography of Market Street, San Francisco, California.
Starting at the foot of the Ferry Building and stretching to the foot of Twin Peaks, Market Street both defines and divides the heart of the City. In 1847, Jasper O'Farrell surveyed Market Street, which was planned to be a broad avenue connecting the village of Yerba Buena (in the present downtown area) to the community around Mission Dolores. The construction of Market Street began in late 1859 and was completed by January 1860.

Lotta's Fountain
Lotta's Fountain, the oldest surviving monument in San Francisco, was donated by the dancer/singer Lotta Crabtree in 1875. The fountain, which was one of the few remaining structures on Market Street following the 1906 earthquake and fire, became a central meeting place for San Franciscans.
