Example 2: Spotlighting, Landers Earthquake Scarp

Landers Earthquake Scarp This is a north-facing view of the fault scarp formed during the June 28, 1992 magnitude 7.3 earthquake that occurred in the Mojave Desert, northeast of Los Angeles. This is an example of spotlighting, and in this case, it was naturally occurring (catch as catch can) as the sun was setting over an adjacent ridgeline, the shadow of which was rising to darken the foreground. Also notice that there is a blue color shift in the shadow detail.
