Example 5: Blue Shift in Shadows

Blue Shift This image of convolute lacustrine sediments on the north side of Mono Lake, California, exhibits the classic blue shift in color in the shadow details. The shift is the result of the scattering of blue light in the atmosphere in the absence of direct illumination by the sun or other significant light sources. This shift is recorded (and sometimes accentuated) by the film.
