Example 7: Composition #2 - Evidence of Glaciation, Yosemite National Park

Evidence of Glaciation Visible in this view from above Olmsted Point, are three pieces of evidence that this area was glaciated during the Pleistocene epoch. In the foreground are glacial striations, parallel grooves carved into the polished granite by large blocks pushed by the glacial ice. Patches of the smooth polished surfaces are visible as well. The granitic boulders are glacial erratics, dropped by the melting glaciers. In the background is Half Dome, the famous granodiorite dome that was dissected by the glaciers originating from these highlands. Note that the sunlight had to be at a very low angle to make the striations easily visible.
