Golden Gate Photo - Saguaro National Park Gallery
Fine Art Photography from Saguaro National Park, Arizona.

Saguaro National Park consists of a West and East District, 30 Miles apart with Tucson, Arizona in the middle. A total of 91,327 acres of Sonoran Desert have been preserved by the park since 1933. The tallest saguaroes in the park reach 50 feet (15 meters) in height and weigh 8+ tons, easily making them the largest cacti in the United States.

From Valley View Overlook Trail, with the Tuscon Mountains in the background, the numerous spines mantling the saguaro cacti reflect the sun, giving them a glowing appearance. The western portion of the park is referred to as the Tucson Mountain District.

Saguaro Texture

Saguaro Texture

Here is a look at the skin of a mature saguaro. Notice that many of the needles have been worn off over time along most of the trunk of this 25- to 30-foot tall giant. This cactus is probably around 100 years Old.

Saguaro and Teddy Bear Cholla

Saguaro and Teddy Bear Cholla

A perfect example of how the mighty eventually fall and the meek rise up. The remnants of a saguaro along the Valley View Overlook Trail act as a nurse tree to the diminutive Teddy Bear Cholla. The Teddy Bear Cholla are named for their stumpy, fuzzy appearance, and certainly not for their cuddliness.
